Behind the Music: Rehearsal Night with the KNBB

Ever wondered what a Kris Nock Big Band rehearsal looks (and sounds) like? Spoiler: it involves a lot of music, a lot of laughs, and the occasional unexpected cartoon theme tune.

We rehearse fortnightly in Bristol, where 17 of us cram into a space just big enough to contain all our brass, rhythm, reeds, and enthusiasm. It’s where we fine-tune new charts, run setlists for upcoming gigs, and sneak in the odd wild card.

Like this.

🎥 Here’s a sneak peek from the point of view of our incredible keys player, Travis, absolutely tearing through a solo over the Fairly Odd Parents theme - yes, really. (And yes, it might just be making an appearance in our summer festival set...)

Make sure to follow Travis on Instagram for more!

We like to keep things fresh, fun, and just a little bit chaotic. Rehearsals are where the magic begins, and where the band gels into the tight, high-energy machine we bring to every show.

Want to catch us live? Check out our upcoming /shows. Or if you're a trombonist with a taste for fast key changes and good vibes, maybe get in touch - we’ve got a chair waiting.

Summer Gigs Incoming

Things are heating up - on stage and off!
We’ve got a cracking run of gigs lined up this summer, and we can’t wait to hit the stage and bring the big band energy to some brilliant local events.

🎶 Ella’s Sandy Fest – 21st June
We’re honoured to be part of this special event in memory of Ella, raising funds for Charlton Farm Children’s Hospice.

🎶 Heathfest – 12th July
Join us in Bromley Heath for a sun-soaked day of food, family fun, and of course, live music! We’ll be bringing the bold brass and swinging rhythms to this fantastic community event.

🎶 Melksham Food & River Festival – 31st August
We'll be setting up by the riverside in the heart of Wiltshire for this brilliant local festival. Expect great food, a warm atmosphere, and plenty of toe-tapping tunes from the full band.

We’d love to see you there. See our /shows page for more info, and don’t forget to follow us on social media to stay up to date!

We’re Hiring! (Well… sort of)

Calling all trombone players!
Fancy joining a big band with a modern twist? The Kris Nock Big Band is on the lookout for a new trombonist to join our ranks. We’re a Bristol-based 17-piece band playing everything from classic swing to contemporary funk and jazz fusion.

We rehearse roughly fortnightly on a Friday evening in Staple Hill, we gig often (especially during the summer), and we pride ourselves on creating a supportive, fun, and high-quality musical environment.

What we’re looking for:

  1. Solid sight-reading skills
  2. A good ear and blend
  3. A positive attitude and reliable availability
  4. Bonus points for jazz chops or a strong bucket mute game

If that sounds like your kind of vibe - or you know someone who’d fit the bill - get in touch via email or our contact form, or drop us a message on socials!
